I'm a 24 year old male with a wife of 5 years (Lora) and a daughter
(Tatiana) that turned 2 on the first of September. My birthday was
the 3rd. I told my wife to wait 2 more days to have her, but to no avail.
I was on active duty at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO when
all this started. I'm a network administrator for computer systems and spend
most of my free time on the Internet or working on mine and friends computers.
I have recently started working for a company that does network
consulting. I'm only 9 month out from the transplant, but I had to get back to
work. There is no way I could wait a year. I think working has helped get me
well more than sitting on my duff. :-)
Everything in these papers was written by me. Some of it may seem
scatered, and I may have left things out. I'm trying to do this all while
I'm going though a allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant for Multiple Myeloma.
I was diagnosed late last August (1993). At the time my marrow was 60%
cancer cells. Stage II. I had very low blood counts. 23K Platelets and
I was very bad anemia. We couldn't get the cancer into remission before the
transplant, but I was much better. MM is found mostley in elderly males,
like over 60, so I'm a strange case. My doner (Thanks whoever you are!) was
not a perfect match. Only 5 of the 6 HLA types. The Docs are expecting
some GVHD problems. I am involved in a double blind study in hops to
decrease the amount I get. Lets hope it works.
I have some more info here from the BMT news letter all about
Multiple Myeloma.
Your welcome to read it. It is mostly about the on going study of BMTs
and Myeloma. It also explanes the cancer much better than I ever could.
The paper is from
OncoLink.
OncoLink has a lot of info about cancer in it. I would recomend at least
reading the page about it that I have
here
to get more info. There are links in the document to take you to them.
